Braces for a Wonderful Smile

We all want a beautiful smile because a great smile enhances our beauty. Great smile means a great set of teeth. But the fact is that not everyone's blessed with a perfect set. Some of us do face some challenges there. Are you one of them? There is no room for worries in such an era where medical science and technology has solutions to all problems. One of the most sought out treatments for misaligned teeth and many other problems affecting the appearance of your teeth are the Braces. Here is a brief but detailed study about braces.

Why braces?

Braces are not just a part of a cosmetic treatment but also a solution to many oral issues. Braces can make your teeth function better, the risk of infection or decay is reduced, pressure on the gum and surrounding teeth are much less. The dentist might recommend braces for you due to the following reasons:

  • For overbite, that is when the upper front teeth protrude unduly over the lower teeth.
  • When the upper front teeth cover almost all the lower teeth when they are brought together which is also called a deep bite.
  • When you experience difficulty in chewing or biting food.
  • If the lower front teeth slightly covers the upper front teeth making it sit behind the lower set (underbite)
  • When the lower and upper from teeth don't touch when brought together.
  • Crowding or overlapping
  • Spaces between the teeth
  • Misalignment of teeth

What are the different types of dental braces

There is one great fact about our teeth; just like our fingerprints, each set of teeth is unique and no two sets of teeth are the same. Therefore, the dental braces for each person are different. Here are some different types of dental braces:

The conventional braces which are opted by many. The wire is shaped accordingly and is threaded into the brackets which are glued to each tooth. As time passes, the wire will return to its original shape and position and moves the teeth along with it.

These braces are mostly preferred by adults as it somewhat matches with the colour of the teeth. They are as strong as metal braces as they are made from composite materials. The less visible brackets can be complemented by white metal ties so that they even less visible. But ceramic braces are bit more brittle than the metal braces and the removal is quite difficult because of this reason.

  • Lingual Braces

These braces can be fitted inside the surface of the teeth and so there is no visibility issue. Neither the brackets nor the wires rub the inside of the mouth and so it is even more appealing. Lingual braces cannot be used for every treatment, they cannot be used to treat the deep bite.

Invisalign do not use wires or brackets. They align the teeth in a very detailed way until the teeth attain the correct position.
